Ericsson aims to become a leading provider of IPTV solutions in Taiwan within three years with commitments to working with local CPE (customer premises equipment) makers to develop related IPTV products for global markets, Claes Odman, president of Multimedia Solutions at Ericsson, said recently in Taipei.
The high interest in the IPTV market by telecom operators and the sound basic infrastructure and market conditions will make the IPTV segment a promising market in Taiwan, Odman asserted.
Citing data available from research firms, Odman said that the number of fixed-line broadband subscribers in the global IPTV market is expected to increase to 40 million in 2011 from the current two million.
In addition, the global value of related TV services is expected to top US$240 billion by 2010, with IPTV accounting for over US$30 billion, or 14%, of total TV services, Odman detailed.
The initial cooperation with Taiwan network-equipment makers could include IP STBs (set-top boxes) and LCD TVs, Odman noted.
