Huawei Unveils the Industry' s First Hybrid Access Line Assurance Solution--Xpert LAS

[Shenzhen, China--] Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, launched Xpert LAS, the industry's first hybrid access line assurance solution that will help operators solve new line maintenance problems arising from hybrid xPON+DSL access deployments.

Hybrid FTTx architectures with deeper fiber and shorter copper are increasingly being deployed by operators to offer multi-play services over high bandwidth links. Ensuring reliable performance of copper is an increasing challenge faced by operators to guarantee Quality of Experience for end-users. Multiple FTTX network topologies with different copper lengths and aging copper loops increase the maintenance effort required, adding to the overall OPEX. Issues arising out of crosstalk and interference seriously impact the performance of DSL, and affect the service rollout.

Huawei's Xpert LAS implements the leading DSM (Dynamic Spectra Management) technology based on its innovative APO (Associated Performance Optimization) algorithm, to solve the DSL crosstalk & interference bottleneck in an efficient and practical way. Its software-based provisioning and management solution enables operators to reduce service roll-out time and maintenance effort and in turn attract more customers with faster time-to-market. The end-to-end line assurance solution offers great power saving features for DSL, assisting operators in their effort for energy savings.

Typically, the Xpert LAS improves ADSL2+/ VDSL2 performance by over 30%, and greatly reduces the probability of mosaics in IPTV. It also helps operators to expand their IPTV offerings or other bandwidth-consuming services in the copper bundle. Without requiring any additional probing equipment, the solution can pinpoint fault location in a fast and accurate way. Its accuracy in pinpointing the exact fault location is as high as 85%. This translates to at least 10% reduction of truck rolls.

"With the widespread deployment of FTTx, operators face increasing challenges for end-to-end diagnosis and optimization of xDSL. Through Xpert LAS, operators will greatly improve broadband service quality, meanwhile reducing CAPEX and OPEX." said Yang Zhirong, President of Huawei Access Network Product Line.

By the end of 2007Q4, 65 million ports of Huawei SmartAX xDSL, including 51 million ports of IP DSLAM have been deployed in more than 60 countries and regions. To date, Huawei SmartAX FTTx access equipment is serving many leading operators, such as Telefonica, Etisalat, TI, KPN, China Telecom, China Netcom, etc.
