Taiwan market: Asustek expects to ship up to 240,000 Eee PCs in 2008

Asustek Computer expects to ship 220,000-240,000 Eee PCs in the Taiwan market in 2008, according to sources at the company.

In the first half, Asustek shipped around 60,000 Eee PCs (40,000 in the first quarter and 20,000 in the second). The company expects to ship an average of 80,000 units per quarter in the second half.

Eee PC 901 and 1000 currently account for around 60-70% of the total Eee PC sales.

As for Asustek's mainstream notebooks, the company expects Intel's Centrino 2 (Montevina) platform to account for around 30% of shipments, Santa Rosa and Santa Rosa Refresh around 60%, and AMD's Puma platform the remaining 10% at the end of the year.

Asustek's P45-based motherboards currently account for around 20% of the company's total motherboard shipments in the Taiwan market, and the company has taken an 80% share of the Taiwan motherboard market, claimed the company sources.

The company has launched five handsets in the Taiwan market during the first half of 2008 with accumulated shipments of 16,000 units. The company is planning to launch two more models in the second half and expects their combined shipments to reach 50,000 units.
