Taiwan market: CHT to start marketing iPhone 3GS in August

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) will start marketing Apple's iPhone 3GS smartphones in the Taiwan market on August 1, according to the carrier.

In line with Apple's price cuts for its 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G, CHT will also lower the prices of iPhone 3G handsets sold in the local market, with market sources predicting the reduction rate to be higher than 20%.

CHT has sold a total of 60,000 iPhones since it introduced the Apple smartphones in November 2008, said CHT sources, who also projected that CHT's smartphone purchases are likely to top 320,000 units in 2009.
