Toshiba has launched its Qualcomm Snapdragon-based smartphone, the TG01, in the Taiwan market with a suggested retail price of NT$20,900 (US$647).
Since the TG01 was launched in July, sales of the full touchscreen Windows Mobile-based phone have been strong in a number of markets in Europe, including the UK, Spain, France, Germany and Italy, according to Yasahiro Yamada, general manager for overseas sales and marketing, Toshiba Mobile Communications.
To further expand its global market share, Toshiba will also roll out smartphones for the mid-range segment in 2010, including models equipped with QWERTY keyboards and multimedia models supporting language input, Yamada indicated.
Toshiba has already moved its handset production base from Japan to China, and the company currently has no plans to outsource the production of smartphones to other handset makers, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
