July sales flat for handset PCB makers

Taiwan handset Printed circuit board (PCB) makers had flat sales in July, as worldwide handset vendors remain conservative regarding handset market demand. PCB makers remain conservative about August and September as well.

Handset PCB maker Compeq Manufacturing posted July revenues of NT$ 1.6 billion, up 12% sequentially, according to data from the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE). The company indicated that its shipments for the high-end handset segment will be better in the second half of this year and the company estimates its revenues will continue to improve over the next two months. However, the company's order visibility only extends six weeks in advance, so market watchers forecast Compeq's revenues in the third quarter will increase only 5-10% sequentially.

Unitech Printed Circuit Board's July revenues were NT$852 million, up 6% from NT$805 million in June, according to data from the TSE. The company indicated that based on its order visibility through September, its revenues in September will be similar to that of July and August. Unitech believes that the second quarter was its low season for the year, and while its performance in the third quarter won't be as good as expected, sales will still be up 10% sequentiality.

Unimicron Technology only published its July unconsolidated revenues, which totaled NT$ 3.3 billion, a drop 5% from NT$3.4 billion in June due to fewer rush orders in July. The company estimates its orders will gradually increase in August and September, but market watchers expect its shipments in the handset segment to only grow 5% this quarter.
