MediaTek to introduce Windows Mobile smartphone chips next year, says paper

MediaTek, having completed its deployment in 3G handset chips, is speeding entry into the smartphone market. The company is in talks with Microsoft about the launch of Windows Mobile smartphone chips next year, and it is also developing application processor (AP) chips based on ARM's solutions, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

MediaTek's WCDMA and EDGE dual-band chip MT6268 has been sampled by major China handset makers and telecommunication companies; its 3.5G TD-HSDPA chip AD6905 has been adopted by ZTE; and its TD-HSUPA chip MT6909 is being validated by Datang Telecom Technology, the paper noted.
