Communication and network equipment maker Microelectronics Technology (MTI) expects shipments of its new product lines, including WiMAX CPE (customer premise equipment) products and RFID (radio frequency identification) readers, will start in the first quarter of 2009, helping it curtail the impact of the current unfavorable business conditions, according to company president and CEO Allen Yen.
The new WiMAX products built using MTI's core high frequency and microwave technologies are most suitable for mobile telecom infrastructure in some emerging markets, Yen stated.
The company is expected to finalize soon details of its cooperation on production of RFID readers with a number of international players, which will pave the way for MTI to start shipping the product in the first quarter of 2009, Yen added.
Since MTI's communication and networking devices are for basic telecom infrastructure which is less vulnerable to the economic slump, the company is likely to see its revenues hit a new high as expected in December, the company said. MTI's November revenues of NT$2.17 billion (US$65.56 million) were the company's highest monthly figures ever.
The company also estimates its gross margin to climb to 19.5-20% in the fourth quarter of 2008, compared to 18% on average in the first three quarter of this year.
