VisualOn to push multimedia software sales to first-tier handset makers

Silicon Valley-based VisualOn, a provider of multimedia solutions for mobile devices, has said that its multimedia solutions have found their way into a number of OEM/ODM device makers, including High Tech Computer (HTC), Mitac International, Quanta Computer, Wistron, as well as Research in Motion (RIM).

The company is now pushing sales of its advanced multimedia software to the first-tier handset vendors such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Sony Ericsson, according to company CEO Yang Cai.

While the handset sector currently contributes 80% of VisualOn's total revenues, the company will also target clients in the GPS, mobile TV and MID (mobile Internet device) sectors, Cai added.

China-based Lenovo and Huawei Technologies are also considering using VisualOn's solutions, indicated Cai, who also noted that the mobile TV market in China is expected to experience a major take-off in 2009.

VisualOn began turning in profits in the second quarter of 2008, and its financial capability has been further strengthened recently due to an influx of US$2.7 million from venture capital firms, including AsiaTech Ventures, Cai highlighted.
