Huawei Recognized by Financial Times Award for Innovation and Leadership in Emerging Markets

[20 March, 2009, London, UK] Huawei Technologies ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today received the Financial Times' Arcelor Mittal Boldness in Business award for its performance in and contribution to emerging markets. Huawei was recognized for its leadership in providing customized network solutions in the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries and other developing markets. The other two nominees for this award were HSBC and Standard Chartered.

"We are proud to be announcing the winners of the very first Boldness in Business Awards and we wish to congratulate all of our entrants. All of the winners were selected for their extraordinary commitment to taking a bold and innovative approach to their decision-making and corporate strategies. Focusing on emerging markets, the environment, corporate responsibility, entrepreneurship and decisive or innovative strategy will continue to be success-defining areas in global business for the foreseeable future," said Lionel Barber, editor, Financial Times.

William Xu, Chief Marketing Officer, Huawei Technologies said: "Huawei has proven experience and track record in the emerging markets so we are very proud to be the recipient of this award. Our success in emerging markets is driven in large part by our substantial investments and ability to quickly respond to customers' requirements with solutions that integrate innovation, quality, and value. In a world where the ability to be connected is fast becoming a necessity for success, Huawei is committed to leveraging its telecoms expertise in bridging the digital divide and enriching the lives of those with limited access to communication services. As an integral part of the local communities in which we operate, Huawei will continue to work closely with operators to drive the development of the telecoms industry in emerging markets through skills training and collaboration with local education institutes."
