Company ComNews Research conducted a new study on the development of mobile Internet market in Russia. According to data obtained as a result of this study, it did describe the outcome of 2008 and forecast the development of mobile Internet services in 2009:
In 2008, the mobile Internet (data transmission services) is the most rapidly growing segment of the additional services in the networks of cellular communication in Russia. The tendency of faster income growth in this segment will continue in 2009. Underpinning this growth is continuing the opening third-generation networks, the increase in the number of users of mobile Internet and consumed by traffic. In a crisis the mobile Internet is becoming the main tool for combating «blur» ARPU.
The main outcome of the development of Russian market of mobile Internet in 2008:
• Increased revenue by 87% to 25.4 billion rubles.
• Increased user audience by 45% to 31.2 million subscribers
• Increased traffic in the 2.2-fold, to 5.8 petabyte
• Increased ARPU Internet (active users) to 24%, to 80 rubles.
