Nokia denies Google Android plans

The world's top cellphone maker Nokia has said it is not working on introducing a phone running on Google's Android operating system.

Reports on Monday claimed the Finnish mobile phone maker was understood by industry insiders to be developing a smartphone that runs on Google's Android software, to be introduced in September.

"[There is] absolutely no truth to this whatsoever," said a Nokia spokesman.

Google's Android is a rival to Nokia's Symbian software.

"Everyone knows that Symbian is our preferred platform for advanced mobile devices."

Google's Android has got a lot of traction in the cellphone industry, with many vendors planning to introduce phones using it, but so far only a few Android phones have reached consumers.
