Winning applications to be awarded total of US$330,000 in prize money.

Seoul, Korea, – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leader in consumer electronics and information technology, today announced the launch of a Global Developer Contest to generate innovative new applications for Samsung’s cutting-edge smartphones.

The contest, which opens October 23rd and runs through December 10th, will offer up a total of US$330,000 in prize money for developers creating new applications for Samsung mobiles. The top two winners will receive US$100,000 each in prize money. Following the launch of the Samsung Application Store in selected countries in September, the contest aims to drive interest among developers and attract new applications to strengthen the content available for Samsung mobile phones.

Samsung Electronics will select winning applications by the end of December 2009. The winning apps will be made available for download, either paid or for free, on the Samsung Application Store site, www.samsungapps.com.

Also, winners will be able to maintain a continuous partnership with Samsung through a variety of future opportunities, such as participating in the Samsung’s mobile programmer support program. As the Samsung Application Store expands operations to more countries, it will give application developers and their programs a truly global reach.

This contest is for Omnia II (I8000) and is open for applications in English and Italian.

“Through their active participation, Samsung hopes this contest will offer many opportunities to application developers,” said Hosoo Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s Media Solution Center. “We want them to be able to profit from their work, while at the same time giving our consumers a rich variety of applications to customize their phones. Samsung will to continue to host many exciting events to further develop the Samsung Application Store.”
