SEATTLE -- SOS LINK launched two patented smartphone apps that are security solutions for people when they are mobile. Pressing SOS LINK on a smartphone automatically issues an audible alert, takes up to 60 photos in 60 seconds and sends the photos in small batches via emails to pre-registered helpers along with available GPS coordinates on a Google map. Within a few seconds, pre-registered helpers can see the situation a person is facing and know where that person is located, enabling them to act accordingly.
"We heard of a young woman who was kidnapped, and later released. Fortunately, she had her cell phone with her. We reasoned that many people, young and old, have their cell phone available on a moment's notice, making it ideal as a device to support personal security. We set out to develop software that would be useful not only as an alerting device, but also as an additional barrier for perpetrators. The last thing a perpetrator wants is his or her photo in the hands of authorities within a few seconds," said Chris Rush, VP of SOS LINK. "When we looked into missing children statistics, stalking incidences, workplace and campus violence, Block Watch programs and other threats or crimes, we knew we could and should do something about it."
SOS LINK Personal is available from iTunes for the iPhone 3G and 3GS, and from the SOS LINK website at www.soslink.com for several BlackBerry models. It will soon be available from BlackBerry App World. SOS LINK Group is also available through the SOS LINK website and is designed for companies and organizations wanting an additional layer of security for their mobile personnel along with administrative functions such as setting or changing on-call helpers, adding and deleting personnel and photo archival - all within an end-to-end-encrypted portal. Development of SOS LINK for other BlackBerry, Palm, Nokia, Motorola, HTC, Samsung and LG models will be forthcoming in early 2010 along with multiple language formats.
