Macronix launches 1.8V quad I/O serial flash for handsets

Macronix International Company (MXIC), a Taiwan-based mask ROM and NOR flash maker, has announced a 1.8V quad I/O serial flash device for mobile phones, DECT phones, Bluetooth, GPS and other portable devices. Samples of the 32Mb parts are available now with mass production slated for the first quarter.

Macronix will also offer the new low-voltage 4-I/O serial flash chips - dubbed the MX25U series - in 64Mb and 16Mb/8Mb densities, which will be available in late January and March respectively.

Macronix noted it is now sampling 32Mb MX25U chips with leading handset vendors, and the series will also target China's white-box handset market.
