Android 3.0 and Windows Phone 7 smartphones to compete head-to-head in 4Q10

Smartphones based on Google's Android 3.0 and Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 are expected to enter into a neck-and-neck battle in the fourth quarter of 2010 with both types of smartphones featuring processors over 1GHz and screens larger than 3.5 inches, according to Taiwan-based handset makers.

Windows Phone 7 is thought to be under more competitive pressure than Android 3.0 because Android already has a considerably large global market share for handset operating systems, the sources pointed out.

Except Apple, RIM and Nokia, the other vendors of smartphones, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Sony Ericsson as well as Taiwan-based HTC, Acer and Asustek Computer, will adopt both Android 3.0 and Windows Phone 7 with the proportions in terms of models and volumes to hinge on market conditions, the sources indicated.
