Motorola Provides KTP Korea with Melody iDEN® System for Network Upgrade

Standards-based infrastructure provides reliability and eco-friendly attributes.

SEOUL, Korea – The Networks business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced that it is providing KTP Korea, the nationwide trunk radio system (TRS) service provider, with its Melody iDEN core network solution to expand the KTP network currently serving more than 325,000 subscribers in South Korea.

Motorola’s state-of-the-art Melody solution provides operators with a standards-based, simplified network infrastructure that reduces operating expenses by lowering power consumption and cooling requirements by more than half compared to legacy iDEN infrastructure. In a typically deployed configuration, operators also benefit from a 60 percent reduction in required floor space.

“Motorola iDEN continues investing in new products and feature sets for our iDEN solutions so they meet the needs of operators as they evolve and grow their networks,” said Dave Wangrow, vice president, Motorola sales and service for iDEN International. “Only Motorola’s Melody iDEN technology can provide immediate push-to-talk connection for a huge subscriber base while reducing the cost of ownership and improving reliability with reduced hardware complexity.”

“We selected Melody to extend the life of our iDEN network and provide better service for our customers,” said JinWoo Lee, senior vice president and CTO of KTP. “It can handle our increasing subscriber base while delivering enhanced reliability and lower network operating costs.”

The Melody iDEN core network solution is a cost-effective, fully integrated communication solution that leverages the best features from two-way radios, cellular phones, packet data and messaging services. iDEN networks using the Melody core network solution can offer private and group calling, full-feature telephony, text messaging and a wide range of data applications for operators in medium- to large-scale markets operating in 800 MHz spectrum such as TRS in South Korea. The iDEN Melody solution is scalable and offers both high network availability and call reliability to operators who seek to extend high-quality services to their customers. Leveraging more than 15 years of iDEN technology innovation, Melody networks include:
