Acer and Kyocera join Nortel WiMAX ecosystem

Nortel Networks has paired up with Acer and Kyocera to expand its WiMAX ecosystem that will bring mobile broadband users more options for accessing the Internet through WiMAX, according to an announcement by Nortel.

By joining the ecosystem program, the Acer Aspire 5920 WiMAX-embedded notebook and Kyocera TWX01 WiMAX/CDMA dual mode handset will be able to connect to Nortel 4G WiMAX networks, the company said.

In addition, Nortel is the first WiMAX vendor to confirm network interoperability with the Acer Aspire 5920, the company added.

Through its work with Acer, Kyocera and other wireless device makers and chipmakers, Nortel will offer its customers of WiMAX networks with more choice and flexibility when selecting terminal-end products, said Nortel.

Previously, Nortel has teamed up with Taiwan-based Zyxel Communications and Quanta Microsystems, focusing cooperation on end-to-end WiMAX solutions such as PCMCIA cards and routers, pointed out market sources.
