Samsung Electronics has secured a portion of TD-SCDMA handsets orders from China Mobile, according to sources in Taiwan's handset industry.
China Mobile began trial commercial operations of its TD-SCDMA networks this month and took delivery of 60,000 TD-SCDMA handsets and 15,000 data cards from a number of suppliers, most of whom are based in China, the sources said.
Samsung will continue to participate in the open bidding by China Mobile for the purchase of TD-SCDMA handsets, said the sources, indicating that Samsung currently focuses on the production of GSM/TS-SCDMA dual-mode models.
In addition, Samsung has also landed orders for tens of thousands of TD-SCDMA handsets for use by the personnel working for the Beijing Olympics with shipments to begin in May, the sources added.
