MediaTek has announced the grand opening of its US wireless headquarters in Woburn, MA. MediaTek has been expanding its global operations in multiple countries in the last couple of years to fuel growth and supply the increasing demand for advanced technology and highly qualified resources.
With revenues of US$2.4 billion last year, MediaTek was the seventh largest fabless IC design house worldwide last year, and the fastest growing design house outside of the United States, the company stated.
Ming-Kai Tsai, chairman and CEO of MediaTek commented at the grand opening that the company is growing globally and is looking to attract additional talent to execute the company's corporate vision.
The new facility will house the recently acquired wireless division staff from Analog Devices Incorporated (ADI) that will develop multi-generation analog and digital chipsets for wireless applications. MediaTek acquired ADI's Othello radio and SoftFone baseband chipset product lines, as well as certain cellular handset baseband support operations, for approximately US$350 million last year.
Through that acquisition, MediaTek's wireless handset division gained a global team of approximately 400 staff.
