Windows Mobile 6.1 support across mobile computing portfolio includes MC3000 family
HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. – October 20, 2008 The Enterprise Mobility business from Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the availability of the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system on its rugged mobile computers and enterprise digital assistants to better manage and deploy devices throughout the enterprise. Initial products to support the new platform will include Motorola’s flagship MC9000 rugged mobile computers, the ergonomic MC3000 mobile computers and the size-optimized MC70 and MC75 Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDAs).

Support for Windows Mobile 6.1 provides Motorola mobile computer customers with enhanced security features including data encryption and support for Microsoft’s System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 (SCMDM) to simplify security policy creation and deployment to mobile devices. Windows Mobile 6.1 will also provide users with greater access to standardized off-the-shelf applications; improved mobile messaging; increased device control with a variety of device management solutions to wirelessly administer and deploy software upgrades. Windows Mobile 6.1 combined with Motorola mobile computers help to enhance the user experience and improve workforce satisfaction inside the retail store, on the loading dock or on a delivery route.

Multiple Microsoft OS options for MC3000
Demonstrating Motorola’s continued ability to meet customer demands with versatile product offerings, the MC3000 mobile computer will now support Windows Mobile 6.1 for the first time. With the option of Windows Mobile 6.1 or Windows CE 5.0, Motorola’s MC3000 mobile computers provide application developers and customers with the flexibility to choose the operating system that best serves their mobile workforce needs.
The MC3000 mobile computer is ergonomically designed for scan-intensive environments that require high-quality data capture. Select MC3090 Windows Mobile 6.1 configurations also feature the popular rotating scan head with left, right and front positions to allow the user to adjust the scanning position for increased comfort and productivity. Along with four-foot drop specifications across of the entire operating temperature range, the MC3090 series of rugged mobile computers has an IP54-rated sealing for protection against water and dust and provides reliable performance in tough environmental conditions.
Support for Windows Mobile 6.1 is expected to be available on the MC3000, MC9000 and MC70 mobile computers in the fourth quarter of 2008, as well as on the MC75 in the first quarter of 2009.
