LG Electronics (LGE) on July 1 launched its new-generation Viewty series smartphone, the LG GC900 Viewty Smart, as well as a new model of its Arena lineup, the Arena Pink, in the Taiwan market.
The launch of touch-enabled Viewty Smart and Arena Pink aims to expand LGE's share in the local touchscreen smartphone segment, according to a July 1 Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
LGE accounted for a 15% share of the touchscreen smartphone segment in the Taiwan handset market in April and managed to push the proportion to 17% in May, the paper quoted Myong Won Baek, chairman of LGE Taiwan, as indicating.
LGE plans to launch 14 new handsets in the Taiwan market in the second half of 2009, and seven out of the 14 models will be touch-enabled ones, the paper quoted Baek as saying.
