Handset PCB makers 3Q revenues to grow 10-15%

Compeq Manufacturing, Unitech Printed Circuit Board and Unimicron Technology are expected to enjoy revenue growth of 10-15% sequentially in the third quarter, according to market watchers. The three handset PCB specialists are likely to enjoy monthly revenue increases through September, thanks to seasonality.

Compeq expects its June revenues to stay flat compared to May because the recovery of the Europe and US markets was not as fast as expected and customers placed order conservatively. The company shipped about 32-35 million handset PCBs in the second quarter, and its shipment goal for the third quarter is 40 million units, up 14-25% sequentially, it said.

Compeq said its third-quarter shipments of HDI boards used in notebooks will remain at the same level as the second quarter's.

Unitech indicated that orders for smartphone, mid-range to high-end handset, GPS and automotive PCBs are all increasing, and demand for smartphone products is particularly strong.

Unimicron's utilization rates for PCB, HDI and IC substrate production have all reached over 80%. Market watchers estimate its second-quarter revenues will grow by at least 30%.
