Handset component makers expect 50% on year revenue growth in 1Q10

Handset component makers including Merry Electronics, Silitech Technology and Ichia Technologies are expected to see their revenues in the first quarter of 2010 increase by 40-50% on year due to an uptick in the global handset market, according to market sources in Taiwan.

Nokia, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics (LGE) are all positive about their business outlooks for the year, while Motorola and Sony Ericsson are performing well in the high-end segment, indicated the sources, noting that strong prospects held by those brand vendors will help drive up shipment growth at handset component makers.

Merry, for example, is soliciting orders for hands-free and Bluetooth headsets and speakers from US- and Korea-based handset vendors, in addition to orders currently coming from Europe-based vendors, the sources said.

Merry has also revealed that it will invest 3.5 million yuan (US$512,445) in a Beijing-based speaker maker, with plans to take up a 25% share of the speaker maker within three years.
