Alpha Imaging to get boost from imaging processor orders for Samsung handsets

MediaTek affiliate Alpha Imaging Technology (AIT) has successfully entered the supply chain for Samsung and will provide image signal processor (ISP) solutions for Samsung's 5-megapixel high-end cameraphones, and the relationship with Samsung should help boost the company's revenues for the second half of this year by 20-30%, compared with the NT$430 million (US$12.8 million) in sales the company reported in the first half of the year, according to market sources.

Alpha Imaging indicated that the company started to cooperate with Samsung Group's subsidiary Semco, a flip-chip chip-scale packaging (FC-CSP) substrate maker, to develop a 5-megapixel camera module in the beginning of this year, with Alpha Imaging being in charge of developing the ISP. With Samsung Electronics handset department having validated the product, Alpha successfully replaced the original Japan-based supplier.

Alpha Imaging ships 20-30 million ISPs a year, according to the company.
