Taiwan market: Gigabyte cooperates with Chunghwa Telecom to launch MID bundle deal

Gigabyte Technology will cooperate with Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) to bundle its M528 Mobile Internet Device (MID) along with mobile Internet services in December, according to the companies.

The cost of the M528 will be reduced from NT$19,500 (US$585.06) to a subsidized NT$12,900 when bought with an unlimited bandwidth subscription for NT$850 per month. The M528 MID is manufactured by Compal Electronics.

The cooperation with CHT was facilitated via Gigabyte's involvement in Intel's MID Innovation Alliance, according to Gigabyte. In addition to Gigabyte, Intel has also helped hardware vendors including HTC, Compal and BenQ ink deals with various telocos including France-based SFT and Italy-based Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM).

Among the top-five notebook makers, currently only Wistron has yet to join the MID Innovation Alliance.
