InvenSense seeks partnerships with Taiwan foundry service providers

InvenSense, a provider of motion sensing solutions for mobile applications, is looking for partnerships with Taiwan-based foundry service providers, according to company CEO Steve Nasiri.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) are likely partners, industry watchers have noted. The two foundries reportedly have been biding for microelectromechanical system (MEMS) orders from InvenSense, whose MEMS gyroscope is incorporated into Wii-related accessories.

Nasiri projected that demand from consumer electronics applications will be InvenSense's major revenue driver in 2009. The applications incorporating InvenSense solutions will be seen in more mobile phones and game consoles.

Nasiri said his visit to Taiwan is aimed to work out some partnership agreements with local foundry service providers, in an attempt to fulfill InvenSense's shipment expansion for 2009. But he declined to disclose details about InvenSense's possible strategic partners in Taiwan.
