Compal Communications has recaptured an order for low-cost ODM handsets from Motorola – an order of which the US-based handset vendor had previously given to Foxlink (Chen Uei Precision Industry), according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
Despite renewal orders from Motorola, total handsets shipped by Compal in 2009 will be about 25 million units, down sharply from the 37.8 million units it shipped in 2008, the paper quoted market sources as indicating.
In other news, Compal posted revenues of NT$1.6 billion (US$47.5 million) in January, up 15% from the previous month but down 61.1% from a year ago, according to a company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).
