High Tech Computer (HTC), on February 23, launch its second-generation HTC Touch Cruise smartphone in the Taiwan market with a suggested price tag of NT$16,900 (US$487), representing a decrease of 29.3% from the price of its predecessor.
With plans to launch the new Touch Cruise in Hong Kong on February 24 and other markets in Asia Pacific later on, HTC aims to tap new business opportunities in emerging markets in the region with entry-level to mid-range devices, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted HTC Asia vice president Jack Tong as indicating.
During a press conference at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, HTC CEO Peter Chou indicated that overall the company has shipped more than 40 million Windows smartphones, which would account for about 80% of the 50 million Windows Mobile devices that Microsoft has said it has sold.
