Huawei delivers China Unicom' s first 3G network in Zhengzhou

Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leading provider of next generation telecommunication solutions for operators around the world, today has announced it has deployed China' s first UMTS commercial network for China Unicom in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China.

The deployment will enable China Unicom to offer high-speed mobile data services, such as high-speed mobile internet and other advanced multimedia services for its end-users.

In China Unicom' s Phase One UMTS tender, Huawei was awarded the largest market share of over 30 percent based on number of transceiver to be deployed. In February 2009, Huawei connected China Unicom' s first UMTS video call across 20 leading cites and expects to complete deployment of China Unicom' s entire UMTS network, which includes cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, in April 2009,

According to In-Stat, Huawei secured 42 new UMTS/HSPA contracts in 2008, representing 40.4 percent of the total number of new contracts signed
