Nordic telecoms Tele2, Telenor form joint venture for 4G network rollout in Sweden

Nordic telecom operators Tele2 and Telenor ASA say they'll form a joint venture to build a high-speed wireless Internet network in Sweden.

Tele2 spokeswoman Pernilla Oldmark says the new network will be based on fourth-generation wireless technology that enables users to surf the Internet at speeds of up to 150 megabits per second _ 10 times faster than with the current third-generation technology.

Oldmark says Sweden's Tele2 and Telenor of Norway will be equal partners in the joint venture, named Net4Mobility.

The companies said in a joint statement Tuesday that the launch of the new network _ which will be based on so-called LTE mobile broadband technology _ is expected at the end of 2010.
