Brief: Snapdragon 600 powered Note II official
There were rumors floating around the internets a few weeks ago saying that Samsung was working on a variant of the Galaxy Note II that used Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 600 chip instead of the company’s own Exynos 4 Quad. Well, turns out those rumors were true.
China Mobile, the world’s largest operator, just announced a device called the GT-N7108D on Weibo (the Chinese version of Twitter), and yes, it uses the new Snapdragon. Why would Samsung make this variant? Because it’ll be able to support the operator’s complicated network, which right now uses TD-SCDMA, W-CDMA, TDD-LTE, and FDD-LTE.
Should you be jealous?
Not really, the Note III, rumored to have a Snapdragon 800, is coming out soon.

Deal: Buy one Sprint Galaxy S4 on two-year contract, get another S4 absolutely free
In what is perhaps one of the best deals you’re ever going to find on a flagship device, those who purchase a Galaxy S4 from Sprint on a two-year contract for $199.99 will get another Galaxy S4 absolutely free(after a $50 mail-in rebate).
The offer is part of Sprint’s Back to School promotion, and will be available till August 15th, which gives you a lot of time to jump in on the deal. Giving away two Galaxy S4s for the price of one is the best promotion Samsung could have for its 2013 flagship, as flagships from other manufacturers look on in jealousy as even more Galaxy S4s fly off the shelves.
The Galaxy S4 sports a 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, beastly Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, 16GB of inbuilt storage and a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, HSPA+, LTE, and NFC connectivity, a 2,600mAh battery, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, which includes features such as Air View, Smart Pause, and Multi-Window split-screen multitasking.
Hit the source link to take advantage of this awesome deal.
P.S: You will have to enter a 2-year agreement on the free Galaxy S4 as well, either a new one or as an upgrade over your previous device.
Snapdragon 600-powered Galaxy Note II officially announced by China Mobile
Well, that didn’t take long. After peeking out in a benchmark listing less than a week ago, the Galaxy Note II powered by a Snapdragon 600 processor has been made official in China, with the model number GT-N7108.
The new variant will be exclusive to China Mobile, the country’s and the world’s largest carrier, and the only reason they’re switching to a Snapdragon processor this late is to add support for the operator’s TD-SCDMA, W-CDMA, TDD-LTE, and FDD-LTE-enabled network, which offers increased 4G speeds.
With the N7108D, the Galaxy Note II has become even faster, while keeping its other high-end specs intact, including 2GB of RAM, 5.5-inch 720p HD Super AMOLED display, 8-megapixel rear and 1.9-megapixel front camera, 16GB internal memory and a microSD slot, a 3,100mAh battery, and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with features such as Multi-Window multitasking and stylus support.
Sorry folks, this one is going to be China-only, so the best you can do is wait for theGalaxy Note III, which will be powered by an even faster Snapdragon 800 processor.

LG COMMERCIALIZES FIRST SMARTPHONE WITH PRIVACY AND BUSINESS VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGY IN U.S.
Strategic Venture with VMware and Verizon Wireless Enables
Secure Virtual Mobile Experience on LG’s Optimus Vu:
LG Electronics (LG) announced that its Optimus Vu: — known as Intuition in the United States — is the first commercialized smartphone in the U.S. on the Verizon Wireless Network to offer Privacy and Business (P&B) Virtualization. P&B Virtualization essentially divides the smartphone’s operating system in half — creating a secure, IT-controlled environment for business applications, while leaving the end user’s personal data and applications unchanged. The LG Optimus Vu: is the first of a new breed of enterprise-ready smartphones that offer the convenience of this secure, virtual work platform along with all the benefits of LG’s exceptional mobile technologies and user-friendly UX features.
The Optimus Vu: is the result of LG’s successful strategic venture with VMware, the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, and Verizon Wireless, the largest mobile network operator in the United States. This newest device follows in the footsteps of another collaborative effort, the LG Revolution for VMware® Horizon Mobile™. Winner of the coveted International CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award in 2012, the device featured VMware Horizon Mobile and gave users an exciting sample of the virtual mobile experience.
Many of today’s businesses implement a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policy when it comes to mobile phones in the workplace. But having work information and applications on a personal device can represent a security risk, and also can make it challenging for the user to keep personal and business-related matters separate. LG’s mobile device with P&B Virtualization provides a separate, secure virtual work environment that is accessible anywhere, anytime. Employing VMware Horizon Mobile, the LG Optimus Vu: allows users to run a second operating system, completely isolated from the one running on thedeviceitself. This makes it easy to keep work-related applications and data separate from personal ones. By reducing security risks and enhancing manageability for businesses, P&B Virtualization is also more secure than the current range of app container-based solutions available in the market.
“The Optimus Vu: with P&B Virtualization represents a giant leap forward in mobile virtualization technology,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Joining forces with VMware and Verizon Wireless has enabled us to create an enterprise-ready smart device that enhances productivity and convenience. Users can enjoy the versatility of having two devices in one while businesses can feel safe in the knowledge that sensitive information will be completely secure.”
“LG and VMware are addressing the challenges IT departments face every day due to BYOD and the consumerization of IT,” said Boaz Chalamish, senior vice president and general manager, End-User Computing, VMware. “Creating a separate virtual workspace on a mobile device enables IT to provide security and control, while also reducing the burden and liability of managing the entire device. This approach strikes the best balance between addressing IT security needs and end-user freedom.”
LG plans to introduce P&B Virtualization in more of its industr

Nokia Lumia 928 now on sale, shipping on the 20th
The first new high end Windows Phone in 6 months, the Nokia Lumia 928 on Verizon, is now on sale.
The handset is retailing for $99.99 on a two year contract, or $499.99 commitment-free.
The actual handset will only ship on the 20th May, around the same time as we expect stock to become available in store.
Compared to the Nokia Lumia 920 the Nokia Lumia 928 is slightly lighter with a slimmer profile, AMOLED screen and a powerful Xenon flash that very effectively prevents motion blur in night time pictures.
The smartphone is only available in white and black. See the device at Verizon here.

Nokia Lumia 928 officially goes on sale from Verizon, black version begins shipping on May 20th (Update 2)
Great news, patient Verizon Wireless customers. The wait is over and now the carrier has begun selling a brand-spanking new Windows Phone 8 flagship handset: the Nokia Lumia 928.
Available now in black and white color options on Verizon's website for the previously-announced price of $99.99 with a new two-year contract ($499.99 without a contract), the only caveat to purchasing the handset online is that, if you want the all-black version, you'll have to wait a few extra days. According to the listing, orders of the black handset will begin shipping on May 20th; meanwhile orders of the stand-out white version are shipping immediately.
The Nokia Lumia 928 is an exclusive handset for Verizon that is a modest improvement over the Lumia 920, which was released last November. Noteworthy improvements include a new xenon flash for improved low-light photography, an amplified speakerphone for louder and clearer audio playback, and a new edge-to-edge 4.5-inch OLED screen for better viewing under direct sunlight. Learn more about the rest of the Nokia Lumia 928's specifications here.
Update: We forgot to mention that Verizon is also selling a number of accessories for the Nokia Lumia 928 — including the popular Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charging Plate and Fatboy Charging Pillow — which may be found here.
Update 2: As pointed out by a Redditor, the black version is not shipping until May 20th but the white version is shipping immediately. We apologize about the mistake, and have updated the article.

Panasonic unveils the ELUGA P-03E in Japan, a 4.7” 1080p Android smartphone with air gestures
Panasonic has strengthened its range of Android smartphones today with the ELUGA P-03E, a new handset with a 4.7-inch full HD display (1920×1080) and a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor.
The high-end device is just 10.9mm thick and leans on 2GB of RAM, coupled with 32GB of internal memory for downloading apps and multimedia content. It’s equipped with a 13.4-megapixel rear-facing camera, alongside a low-resolution 1.3-megapixel snapper on the front. It weighs roughly 146 grams and is powered by a 2600 mAh battery.
The ELUGA P-03E comes with a new “touch assist” feature which, similar to the Air Gestures found on the Samsung Galaxy S4, can detect swipes before the user has touched the screen. This proximity-sensitive touch screen can detect movements from up to 15mm away and is designed to stop users from selecting apps or menu options accidentally. For instance, if the user hovers over the camera menu or a supported app, the device will provide a description of the software before asking them to confirm the action.
Likewise, hovering over an image will show an enlarged preview, and it’s also possible to access a zoom slider through the Internet browser without using the traditional pinch-to-zoom gesture.
Panasonic says the ELUGA P-03E has a user interface built specifically for one-handed use. Swiping up from the bottom will bring the top half of the screen further down, making content and apps much more accessible. The size and position of the keyboard can also be adjusted to fit small hands, as well as the position of the padlock on the lockscreen.
The ELUGA P-03E is only available from the Japanese version of the Panasonic website, so it’s unclear whether this smartphone will ever see an international release. The product page says it will be released in late June, and pricing is yet to be confirmed.

Sprint's Samsung Galaxy S4 getting its first OTA update today
24MB over the air update rolling out now for Sprint's newest smart phone
If you were lucky enough to pick up a Sprint Galaxy S4 over the weekend, you'll want to start checking for a system update. Build L720VPUAMDL is pushing out, checking in at about 24MB. A scouring of the Internet doesn't seem to tell us anything about this update or what it addresses, so your guess is as good as ours. We assume it's a standard last-minute patch that we see with many new devices, and won't bring any new functionality or make any big changes.
In any case, you'll probably want it so be sure to check Settings > More > System Update to update the Samsung firmware.

While Android and iOS remain the top contenders, Windows steadily moves upwards
As iOS and Android continue to battle it out for top selling smartphone OS, Windows has grown steadily over the past year and is now at its highest sales share figure so far.
While accounting for just 5.6% of smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2013, Windows gained 1.9% compared to the same period last year, according to US smartphone sales data by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.
With nearly half (49.3%) of smartphone sales, Android remains the top selling operating system, but saw only slight growth compared to the same period last year, and is down versus the 3 months ending February 2013 (-1.9%). iOS remains in second place with 43.7% of smartphone sales, down throughout Q1 2013.
Windows strength appears to be the ability to attract first time smartphone buyers, upgrading from a featurephone. Of those who changed their phone over the last year to a Windows smartphone, 52% had previously owned a featurephone. Comparatively, the majority of iOS and Android new customers were repeat smartphone buyers, with 55% of new iOS customers, and 51% of new Android customers coming from another smartphone. While the differences between these figures are small, with over half of the US market still owning a featurephone, it's likely that many will upgrade over the coming year, which will ultimately contribute to more growth for the Windows brand.
Little movement is seen among the top smartphone carriers in the U.S market. Verizon continues to lead smartphone sales with 37.2% of smartphones sold in the 3 months ending March 2013. AT&T remains in second place at 27.9%, and Sprint in third place with 12.3%. T-Mobile is the only carrier to decline this period, seeing a 3.2% loss versus the same period a year ago, down to 9.5% of smartphones sold.
