Innovation Series 2009 - CarbonDiem

Carbon Diem is an app that uses the mobile phone as sensor to process "on device" and directly empower and personalise the environmental debate. Automatically able to detect train, car, subway, tram, walking and even planes, it shows the carbon offset according to the user's behavior. It only asks for user input when cycling and running. We use the pattern of a users movement as described by the GPS and apply algorithms to automate a travel diary. Most important is to apply a software solution, using existing technologies to deliver a scalable solution of global proportions. We measure, compare and inspire a environmental revolution. Climate Change is a global concern, something the mobile industry is very well placed to potentially positively influence.
