Taiwan market: Tatung Infocomm chooses Green Packet solution to enhance WiMAX services

Green Packet Berhad, a developer of next-generation mobile broadband and networking solutions, has sealed an agreement with Taiwan-based WiMAX operator Tatung Infocomm to enhance the connectivity capabilities of Tatung's wireless broadband services.

The agreement will see Green Packet provide Tatung InfoComm with customized and enhanced edition of the Intouch Connection Management Platform. This provision will improve Tatung's ability to offer seamless mobility across networks over secured mobile VPN. An example of this would be a user moving from Tatung WiMAX to WiFi and back to a WiMAX coverage area, enjoying seamless connectivity without having to reestablish a new connection, Green Packet said.

The enhanced Green Packet Intouch Connection Management Platform will also feature an embedded widget tool which allows users to buy their favorite value-added-services (VAS), such as live channel, video-on-demand, music, movies and games from a single access point.

The deal marks Green Packet's expansion into the niche WiMAX operator market, providing carrier-grade connection management solutions.

Green Packet's Intouch Connection Management Platform is compatible with most WiMAX chipsets in the market, the company said. The software is complemented by the Intouch VAS Platform that allows Tatung to appoint third-party developers to build value-added applications. The initial release will be launched in May this year.
