Service Electric Cable TV Teams with Sprint to Further Strengthen Technology Leadership

Nation's First Cable Operator Uses Both Sprint Mobile Broadband Network and Motorola MC75 Symbol to Expand Field Service Capability While Reducing Carbon Emissions.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-- Sprint (NYSE:S) and Service Electric Cable TV announced a two-year agreement for Sprint to provide enhanced communications support to Service Electric’s field service teams. Sprint will supplement its existing push-to-talk services with a comprehensive mobile broadband solution that enables Service Electric technicians to more easily and rapidly serve customers with cable services and repairs.

Service Electric is in the process of deploying Sprint-provided Motorola MC75 Symbol devices to field technicians and supervisors. With connectivity to America’s most dependable 3G mobile broadband network*, the devices are used to integrate and automate multiple functions in the field.

Critical functions supported include routing trucks, capturing signatures and scanning bar codes to track HD cable converters, cable modems and other equipment as they are installed or de-commissioned. Those capabilities are enabled by the rugged Motorola MC75 handheld unit, which includes Microsoft® Windows® Mobile 6.0, GPS navigation, high-speed voice and data connections to the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network, a WiFi card and the ability to capture high-quality pictures, documents and signatures, as well as bar codes.

“Sprint is delivering a feature-rich solution that takes our customer responsiveness to its highest level yet, using all the advantages of a fast and dependable 3G network,” said John Walson Jr., president, Service Electric Cable TV. “In addition to helping our teams deliver service faster, more efficiently and with lower fuel consumption during a normal day, we can also act even more quickly during emergencies. When storms or other events cause outages, we can rapidly analyze where calls are coming from and instantly get vital information to our field crews.”

Through a previous agreement, Service Electric also uses Nextel Direct Connect® push-to-talk services from Sprint to provide instant communication for field personnel.

“Sprint is pleased to build on our partnership with one of the cable industry’s most highly respected pioneers,” said Jaime Jones, senior vice president – General Business & Public Sector, Sprint. “Service Electric has a well-deserved track record of innovation in all aspects of its business. This utilization of advanced communications technology is yet another example of their leadership, adding high-speed mobile broadband to their existing push-to-talk investment to achieve even more effective service delivery for their customers, along with greater efficiencies for their business.”

Sprint serves Service Electric through its newly formed Business Markets Group (BMG). Composed of more than 4,000 sales, support, marketing and operations personnel, Sprint’s BMG is dedicated solely to enterprise, general business and public sector customers. BMG offers a unique combination of 3G and 4G technologies and applications, including integrated wireless-wireline services and a comprehensive solutions portfolio of devices and applications.
