Services for the community, a program for members

The first of the Web-based programs that are designed to create tangible value for Symbian members has been rolled out on the developer site. Quite neatly, it also serves the entire community.

Symbian offers support for developers through the Forums. However, if developers want more technical support, professional services or training, there is an impressive array of members that can help. These members are listed on the newly enhanced Services pages. When you go there, you’ll be offered the three categories (professional services, technical support, training), and sub-categories when you click on the links.

If you’re the kind of person who likes to scroll, you can scroll through all the categories, trawling for inspiration. If you know you want a particular kind of support, you can click on that sub-category and find the members that provide that service. And finally (my favourite), if you know you need a certain kind of support, and you’re pressed for time, you just fill out the (very short) form at the top of the page, select the kind of support you need from the drop-down menu, and press Send. Your request will be sent to all of the members in the category you selected. Simples.

This benefits the community by providing access to lots of information quickly. It benefits the members who are services providers by generating qualified sales leads.

So, onward. Some of the upcoming programs target specific member constituencies; some are intended to address the entire community. But the thing to remember is that Member Programs is a continuing process. If you’ve got an idea for a program that would benefit the community and enhance the value of membership, let us know at info@symbian.org.

NB: The next membership posting will appear on the new Membership Blog – I hope you’ll continue following and contributing to the conversation. And if you want quick updates about which companies have joined, the latest opportunities for members or member events, please follow Roelof and Lauren on the Symbian Members Twitter feed.
