Telefónica launches commercial services across Latin America using Huawei' s Service Delivery Platform

13 market Service Delivery Platform (SDP) solution deployed in under six months.

Telefónica, the world biggest integrated operador, and Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions worldwide, announce the fulfilment in the deployment of the new Service Delivery Platform (SDP) that will serve all countries in Telefónica' s Latin American region. In less than six months, and within the previewed schedule, the SDP has been deployed and the first commercial services have been launched.

This SDP project represents a key movement for Telefónica to pursue the mobile internet opportunities and the final business success. It' s considered as one of the largest of its kind in terms of scale and complexity, and uses an advanced SOA and multi-national hierarchical networking architecture that covers 13 subnets of Telefónica in Latin America. During the implementation and delivery phase, Huawei was responsible for integrating various network equipments, along with the BSS systems from different vendors. Furthermore, Huawei also provides consultancy services covering business analysis; architecture design and service planning, highlighting the multiple added values Huawei can bring to operators.

Now with this platform, Telefónica has started the commercialization of new solutions such as mobile advertising, messaging tools for the management of different e-mail accounts, network storage and management of SMS, Mobile Newspaper, etc.

From now on, the SDP will allow Telefónica to provide at a regional level a complete portfolio of value added convergent services, for different devices, as well as for mass market and enterprise markets, including small and medium sized enterprises. Besides, this platform will accelerate the time to market of new services and will reduce operational costs, thanks to reutilization of resources and business management systems already integrated in the platform. Developers and software companies will have the possibility to use this solution to integrate their own services in a fast and unified way, facilitating the creation of an ecosystem for the development of services and innovation around the SDP.

Luis Miguel Gilpérez, Head of Mobile Business at Telefónica Latinoamérica said: "The development of the regional Service Delivery Platform adds differential value to the company' s offering allowing Telefonica' s customers in LatAm to access the most innovative services, in the fastest and most efficient way. In a rapidly changing environment, Huawei' s SDP solution, allows TEF to constantly deploy the latest innovative solutions, shortening the "time to market" and therefore ensuring a quicker and more efficient delivery to consumers".

"The SDP will help Telefónica and Huawei to position themselves as innovation leaders in mobile internet and convergent services, as well as reinforce their relationship as strategic partners", explains Tang Xiaoming, President of the Telefónica Global Account at Huawei Technologies. "We are proud of cooperate with Telefónica in this project, which is opening great business opportunities for the future".
