Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, and Shaanxi Telecom, a subsidiary of China Telecom, today announced the successful commercial deployment of the world’s first five terabits per second (Tb/s) cluster router system on the operator’s metropolitan area network in Xi’an.
Huawei’s NE5000E multi-chassis cluster systems with 2.56Tb/s capacity have been serving Shaanxi Telecom since 2006, where their reliability and performance were put to the test by the largely-populated network. With the traffic of 3G services and multi-media applications continuing to grow rapidly, Shaanxi Telecom has successfully upgraded the capacity of its existing Huawei cluster router of 2.56Tb/s to 5Tb/s (4 cluster line-card chassis each with 1.28Tb/s capacity and 2 cluster central chassis configuration) without service interruption and hardware replacements.
Huawei, a long-term strategic partner of Shaanxi Telecom, has been leveraging its deep experience in IP technologies to provide the operator with stable and reliable field services. The successful deployment of the 5Tb/s cluster router system will enable Shaanxi Telecom to address customer demand for high bandwidths, and will also provide a solid foundation for future network evolution.
"We are honored to work with Shaanxi Telecom to deploy the world's first commercial 5Tb/s cluster router system," said Zha Jun, Vice President of Network, Huawei. “This again demonstrates our leadership in IP technology, following our launch of the industry’s first 10Tb/s cluster router solution in 2008. We will continue to help operators worldwide to build flexible, scalable, and sustainable networks through our customized solutions."
With its All-IP convergence strategy, Huawei is well-positioned to fully support All-IP network transformation for operators. As the core platform of Huawei’s IPTime solution for backbone networks, over 1,000 sets of NE5000E and its multi-chassis system have been shipped to global operators, including China Telecom, China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, Globe and Sonaecom, as of June 2009.
