Taiwan-based notebook maker Compal Electronics has landed orders for 100,000 Booklet 3G mini notebooks (netbooks) from Nokia with shipments to be fulfilled before the end of 2009, according to industry sources at Taiwan handset makers.
Panels for the Booklet 3Gs will be supplied by AU Optronics (AUO) and Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), the sources noted.
Nokia will purchase 3G modules for the Booklet 3Gs initially from Belgium-based Option Wireless Technology but will also add China-based Huawei Technologies to the 3G module supplier list later, the sources added.
The device, due to arrive in late October, will be priced at 575 euro (US$821) before any subsidies from mobile operators, according to specifications released at Nokia World 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Nokia's high pricing strategy aims to avoid the fierce competition in the current netbook segment, asserted market sources in Taiwan.
