Nokia has announced three new multimedia handsets, the N97 mini, X6 and X3, at Nokia World 2009 being held in Stuttgart, Germany.
The N97 mini will succeed its predecessor the N97, while the X6, Nokia's first handset with a capacitive touch-panel, will succeed the 5800 XpressMusic handset. Nokia's XpressMusic family will be renamed the X-series.
Sales of the N97 and 5800 combined have exceeded 10 million units over the past 10 months, Nokia president and CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said.
Although smaller than the N97, the N97 mini still features a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and auto-focus, and supports GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth as well as Facebook Lifecasting, according to Nokia.
The X6 supports Nokia's Ovi services, Ovi Store and Nokia's Comes with Music service.
The X3, which targets the entry-level music handset segment, runs on Nokia's S40 platform but supports the Ovi Store and other Ovi services that are normally reserved only for Nokia S60-based handsets.
The N97 mini will be available in October, while the X6 and X3 will be available starting in fourth-quarter 2009, according to the company.
