WiMAX licensee Global Mobile to start selecting CPE suppliers in September

Taiwan-based WiMAX licensee Global Mobile completed interoperability testing (IOT) with CPE (customer premise equipment) suppliers in August and will start selecting suppliers in accordance with the IOT result in September, according the company.

A number of companies, including Fujitsu Taiwan, Dmedia System, Zyxel Communications, Accton Wireless Broadband (AWB), Quanta Microsystems, ApaceWave Technologies, Asustek Computer and Green Packet Berhad, had participated in the IOT tests, Global Mobile said.

Most WiMAX CPE products that have been tested support data transmission with bandwidth of up to 45Mbps, Global Mobile stated.

Global Mobile is scheduled to kick off its commercial WiMAX services in the Hsinchu area in northern Taiwan in the fourth quarter, the company said earlier.
