Asustek expects WiMAX device shipments to gain momentum in 2010

Asustek Computer has said it expects shipments of its own-brand WiMAX devices, including data network cards, routers and integrated access devices (IADs) to gain momentum in 2010. Shipments of the company's WiMAX devices will reach 100,000 units in 2009.

In addition to shipping WiMAX CPE products to Taiwan-based WiMAX operators, Asustek has also shipped to carriers in Russia, Europe and Latin America, the company noted.

Asustek is likely to expand its WiMAX product lineup to include netbooks, notebooks and e-book readers with built-in WiMAX modules, according to industry sources.

Asustek is expected to roll out a 9-inch e-book reader by the end of 2009 and begin to provide e-reader device to telecom carriers in early 2010, the sources added.
