ATMC Selects Proven Motorola FTTH Solution to Deliver High-Quality Video Entertainment Services to Subscribers

Motorola’s market-leading GPON solutions, optimized for RF video service delivery, continue to appeal to cable operators and telcos of all sizes.

HORSHAM, Pa – Motorola Inc.’s (NYSE:MOT) Home & Networks Mobility business announced that Atlantic Telephone Membership Cooperative (ATMC) has selected Motorola’s gigabit passive optical network (GPON) solution for deployment in its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network. With Motorola’s GPON solution, ATMC can offer subscribers the highest quality video entertainment and broadband services as it expands fiber deployments across greater Brunswick County, a resort area of North Carolina. ATMC joins a growing list of customers who benefit directly from Motorola’s scale and ability to deliver highly reliable and economical FTTH solutions to service providers of any size.

ATMC is a non-profit cooperative providing local telephone service as well as a wide variety of additional services, including cable TV, high-speed Internet, wireless, business communications and security. ATMC’s introduction of GPON technology seamlessly extends its service portfolio while protecting important RF video network and set-top investments used to deliver robust high-definition TV (HDTV) and digital video recording (DVR) services. Motorola’s GPON technology will provide ATMC with increased spectrum utilizing 1 GHz-based RF overlay technology, SCTE-55-1 RF return path and integrated return path demodulation. The addition of Motorola’s GPON access network will expand ATMC’s installed base of Motorola Broadband Passive Optical Network (BPON) FTTH network connectivity to its subscribers.

“In selecting our FTTH network solution, we looked for a partner with extensive GPON experience and a track record of innovation,” said Allen Russ, chief executive officer and general manager, ATMC. “We support a mix of RF video delivery over cable TV, BPON and now GPON networks. Motorola has made the deployment of residential and business services over these different networks as simple and as economical as possible – all while protecting existing investments in our RF video infrastructure and back office operations.”

"Motorola is proud to announce this important and continued relationship with ATMC,” said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, Access Networks Solutions, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “Motorola’s scale and deployment history with larger operators is delivering benefits to all of our FTTH customers, regardless of size. ATMC’s selection of our GPON and 1GHz optical network terminal (ONT) technology speaks directly to our ability to provide innovative FTTH solutions that are reliable, cost effective and simple to deploy.”

ATMC’s fiber network will run on the market-leading Motorola AXS2200 optical line terminal (OLT) and the 1 GHz-capable Motorola ONT1400 single-family ONT. ATMC will continue to use Motorola’s AXSvision element management, BPON, RF video infrastructure and CPE equipment to serve existing customers.

Motorola will have demonstrations in booth #4116 of its leading Fiber-To-The-Premises (FTTP) solutions during the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, October 28 – 30, 2009, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
