Taiwan market: APBT handset purchases to top 800,000 units in 2009

Asia Pacific Broadband Telecom (APBT), Taiwan's only 3G mobile telecom carrier that adopts the CDMA 2000 standard, expects its handset purchases, including CDMA and dual-mode CDMA-GSM models, to top 800,000 units in 2009, compared to less than 600,000 units in 2008, according to the company.

The company also plans to focus on promoting dual-mode CDMA-GSM handsets in the fourth quarter 2009 in cooperation with Inventec Appliances, Samsung Electronics as well as China-based Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment and Coolpad.

APBT expects its subscriber base to continue to expand to 2.3 million as forecast by the end of 2009, up from 2.18 million currently, the company added.

Meanwhile, APBT saw its revenues hit a record high of NT$1.6 billion (US$49.7 million) in September. For the first nine months of 2009, revenues totaled NT$13.3 billion and pre-tax profits reached NT$730 million, according to company data.
