AT&T to Offer Rave Mobile Safety Application for Higher Education Institutions

Location-Enabled Application Transforms AT&T Mobile Devices into a Personal Safety Device.

AT&T* announced it is working with Rave Mobile Safety, a provider of safety applications for mobile users, to provide location-based safety services to mobile subscribers at higher education institutions throughout the United States.

Available today, Rave Guardian from AT&T is a mobile safety application which provides students, faculty and staff members with tools to help improve their safety while on campus.

Using virtually any AT&T mobile device, users can directly link to campus safety organizations and use their phone as a personal safety device in either active or passive mode. When the user initiates the panic call, Rave Guardian from AT&T automatically provides the user’s picture, mobile number, personal information and the student’s location using either A-GPS or AT&T network-based location methods to campus police and other campus safety organizations, which can help officials respond more quickly and more effectively.

“With students and faculty members crossing campus at all hours of the day and night, around the clock security is a must,” said Marty Christofferson, dean of campus technology, Tompkins Cortland Community College. “With Rave Guardian from AT&T, students, parents and staff will be comforted to know that campus security officials can now have access to more reliable and detailed information to help them respond to emergencies on our 220-acre campus virtually anytime, anywhere.”

Rave Guardian from AT&T is a fully hosted system that is easily implemented and fits seamlessly into virtually any existing campus security dispatch process and provides flexibility for single-campus or multi-campus use. The system works on virtually any cell phone on the AT&T network, and no additional resources or hardware are required.

“Today’s announcement builds on our long standing relationship with AT&T,” said Tom Axbey, CEO of Rave Mobile Safety. “Rave Guardian combined with the power of AT&T’s wireless network provides a system for helping to improve campus safety.”

“AT&T is focused on delivering and supporting next generation mobile applications to higher education institutions,” said Chris Hill, vice president, mobility product management, AT&T Business Solutions. “Our relationship with Rave Mobile Safety furthers our mission to help colleges and universities acquire and effectively use telecommunication solutions to enhance the education process, community vitality and security.”

AT&T has a long history of supporting higher education as well as providing services and products to help colleges and universities improve productivity both in and out of the classroom and in administrative support. Among other components, AT&T offers the University Advantage Program, which provides tailored contracts and discounts for colleges and universities.
