Vibo Telecom sets up trial TD-SCDMA network in Taiwan

Taiwan-based 3G operator Vibo Telecom and China's TD-SCDMA Alliance have jointly completed an experimental TD-SCDMA network in Taipei City at a total cost of NT$50 million (US$1.54 million), according to company chairman Rock Hsu.

The core network of the trial TD-SCDMA project comes from China-based ZTE, while the wireless networks are from ZTE and Datang Telecom Technology, said Hsu. Vibo is a member of the Compal Group.

The trial network is intended for use by Taiwan-based network equipment makers to test interoperability of TD-SCDMA CPE devices targeting the China market, said Hsu, adding that the trial network is also available for interoperability tests for TS-SCDMA/WCAMA dual mode CPE products.

In additional news, the Compal Group has already begun shipping notebooks equipped with built-in TS-SCDMA modules to China Mobile. Compal Communications, an ODM handset company of the Compal Group, will launch TD-SCDMA handsets in the first half of 2010, according to Ray Chen, president of Compal Electronics and chairman of Compal Communications.
