Taiwan handset market to grow 3% in 2010, says Samsung Taiwan executive

The handset market in Taiwan is expected to grow 3% in 2010 with momentum to pick up in the second half of the year, according to Andy Tu, president of mobile communications unit, Samsung Taiwan.

Handset sales in the Taiwan market will reach 6.8 million units in 2009, and those shipped by Samsung Taiwan are likely to surpass 1.3 million units, Tu estimated.

Samsung will strengthen its multimedia and smartphone lineups in the Taiwan market in 2010, aiming to maintain a robust growth in unit sales to further boost its market share, Tu stated.

Samsung on December 15 launched two high-end models, the Pixon 12 M8910 and i8910HD in the local market, with the former one carrying a suggested retail price of NT$21,900 (US$678) and the latter NT$20,900.
