DOCOMO licenses the software for decoding HEVC


Japanese mobile operator NTT DOCOMO announced its intent to license this March decoding software HEVC - a new international video coding standard. Decoding software HEVC from DOCOMO, as claimed by the operator, will be the first in the world to play Full HD video HEVC smartphones.

Recall that HEVC been collectively approved Jan. 25 by an international organization ISO / IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG - Experts Group Motion Picture) and the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG - Expert Group on video coding) as the standard H.265. This standard reduces the data transfer speed of a high-quality video coding by 50% or increase quality while maintaining speed compared to the current standard H.264/MPEG-4 AVC.

According to the Japanese operator, its decoding software for smartphones HEVC provides smooth playback of Full HD video - without delays or interruptions. In addition, software for computers to decode in real-time 4K UHDTV video that resolution than Full HD four times.
