Handset sales in the Taiwan market climbed 16.3% sequentially to 635,500 units in January, thanks to the buying spree ignited by Taiwan government's distribution of consumer coupons to all citizens, according to data compiled by retail channels in Taiwan.
The top vendor Nokia took a 32.1% share in terms of unit sales in January compared to 29.8% in December. However, in terms of sales value, Sony Ericsson topped all vendors with a 30% share, ahead of Nokia's 28.97%, the data showed.
Apple saw its share in the local market declined to 1.7% in January, down from 2.2% in December. However, Apple maintained the fourth handset ranking in terms of sales value with a 6.89% share, the data highlighted.
