Fastest Text Messager in America Challenges Ben Franklin to Texting Competition

~ It’s Ben Versus Ben as American Record Holder in Texting Challenges Ben Franklin to See Whose Fingers are the Fastest ~

PHILADELPHIA – The American record holder for text messaging, 21-year-old Ben Cook, came to town for a one-day competition with Philadelphia’s own Ben Franklin, courtesy of Cricket Communications, Inc., a leading provider of unlimited wireless services. It is with Franklin that Cook attempted to regain his title as the Guinness Book of World Record’s Fastest Text Messager. The “Ben versus Ben contest” to see who has the fastest fingers will took place at the Cricket store on 2311 Cottman Avenue on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 3:00pm.

Cook has held the world record for fastest text messaging two times and is currently the country’s fastest text messager. He is now looking to regain his title as the world’s fastest text messager. Cook set the American record on July 29, 2006 by taking 42.22 seconds to type the Guinness Book of Records’ standardized message “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.” The current world record holder is Jeremy Sng Gim of Singapore who typed the standardized phrase in 41.40 seconds on February 24, 2008.

“Cricket’s simple, affordable flat-rate plans include the ability to send unlimited text messages. Not only is this a valuable feature, but texting has become increasingly popular for people across a variety of ages,” said Andy Cook, area general manager for Cricket in Philadelphia. “While most of us can’t text as fast as Ben Cook, or aren’t brave enough to challenge him as Ben Franklin did, text messaging is a very significant form of communication for today’s wireless customers.”
Directly following the “Ben versus Ben” competition, Cricket is inviting Philadelphians to attempt to beat Ben Cook at their Cottman avenue location. The competition will use the standardized message referenced above, which is used by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Cricket, which just launched service in Philadelphia on March 10, offers unlimited text messaging with one flat-rate and no contracts or credit checks. With unlimited texting, 78 percent of Cricket customers have sent a text message within the last 30 days and 52 percent send at least one text message per day.
